If you’ve ridden with Cycle-logical lately, chances are you’ve seen EJ cruising along with a big smile—or hanging back just long enough to kick it into Turbo and fly past the group. This January, we’re excited to spotlight EJ as our Rider of the Month, someone who truly embodies curiosity, connection, and the joy of exploring Oak Island on two wheels.
How It All Started
EJ first discovered Cycle-logical through a Facebook ad, and something about it immediately caught his attention. It felt like more than just a bike ride—it was a fun adventure in a place he was already excited about and hoping to spend more time in. What really drew him in was the chance to experience parts of the island he knew he wouldn’t normally see, especially from a car.
Cycling, Community, and Connection
Before riding with Cycle-logical, EJ hadn’t really considered how cycling could influence his sense of community. But biking has always been part of his life in one meaningful way—his dad loves to ride. Being able to occasionally ride together has become something special for him, a shared experience that allows them to connect while doing something a little out of the ordinary.
A Favorite Moment on the Ride
When asked about a favorite moment, EJ didn’t hesitate. One ride stood out when a fisherman had set up in a no-fishing area. Watching our guide step in and clearly explain the consequences—and why fishing lines don’t belong there—left a lasting impression on him. It was a powerful reminder that these rides aren’t just about fun; they’re also about education, advocacy, and protecting the places we ride through.
The E-Bike Surprise
What surprised EJ the most was how much he loved the freedom of riding an e-bike. The ease and accessibility allowed him to explore areas of the island he would never notice from a car. Riding opened up a whole new perspective and made the island feel more connected and alive.
Making Rides Part of Life
Cycle-logical rides aren’t just something EJ fits into his life—they’re something he plans around. He genuinely looks forward to each ride as a way to meet people who enjoy the same things he does and to continue building a connection with the island. Physically, mentally, and socially, riding has become an important part of how he shows up in his community.
Bringing Friends Along
If EJ could bring one friend on a Cycle-logical ride, his answer is simple: he wouldn’t stop at just one. His plan is to bring every friend who visits him next summer out on a ride, sharing the experience with anyone willing to hop on a bike.
And Finally…
When asked to finish the sentence “A Cycle-logical ride wouldn’t be complete without…” EJ shared this:
“…lagging behind so I can hit Turbo mode and blast past the main ride as fast as I can.”
Honestly, that sounds pretty on brand.
💙 Thank you, EJ, for riding with us, for your enthusiasm, and for reminding us how powerful it can be to explore a place with intention, curiosity, and a little extra speed.
